I’ve had the camera for about a month now. I recently took some night time shots without a flash, The pictures came out great. Camera is very fast, 8 frames per second. Its a big jump from my XTI.
This is a spectacular piece of equipment for an avid photographer or videographer. Advanced metering, focus, bracketing. Quick adjustment screen, easy to use controls, very responsive. Beautiful shots, great video (though you really need an external mic for quality sound) and a wonderful photography experience. I highly recommend this camera for mid and high level photographers, but it is not for the faint of heart–newcomers should look at the 60D or Rebel XTi
I bought the Canon 7d after days of research as to the right camera and lens that would work for all types of photography. I do weddings (needing high ISO levels), birthing sessions (needing fast shutterspeeds), but primarily use it for taking pictures of varying ages of children (needing great focus AND fast shutterspeed), to capture the moments for my clients and of our family. Unfortunately, my camera was stolen, so it was back to the drawing board to find a replacement. After watching fantastic videos online by reviewers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET0idevzGRE) to decide whether I should “downgrade” I discovered that this reviewer felt strongly that the 7D was a better contender than the 60D OR the coveted 5D Mark ii. He did offer advice in another video that the Nikon D7000 was equal to if not better than the Canon 7D in almost all respects, but did acknowledge that the 7D had a slightly faster response time. So if you aren’t loyal to a specific brand… most reviewers are saying the Nikon D7000 is a better bang for your buck. Unfortunately, lenses aren’t compatible between the two brands, so I need to stick with something by Canon, since I have a $1.600 lens that was not stolen and clearly would be costly to replace with something comparable through Nikon. Other than that alternative, I have to say I LOVE everything about my 7D and am excited to get it back.

Though I initially had some mechanical problems with my original copy, Best Buy exchanged with no problems. I decided on the 7D over the 5D Mark II because I do a mix of shooting from HS sports to second shooting weddings and this fits that niche perfectly. Low noise at high ISO, fast frame per second rate and the AWB works much better than the previous 40d and 30d I’ve owned.
Pros: Solid Build, 18mp, Great low light performance, 8fps
Cons: Price.. But you truly get what you pay for here Other Thoughts: Was looking to upgrade my Rebel XSI and WOW !! what an upgrade. Plenty of settings to dial in exactly what you need and excellent low light performance. Worked great in my first basketball shoot. ISO performance is very good
Pros: Incredible options avaialble on this camera. Lowlight photos do a very good job as well. The 8x sec burst is great for my athletic photos. Battery life is very good.
Cons: Price but when put into context this too should probably be a pro. None other, I love this camera Other Thoughts: I had the original Canon Digital Rebel so this was a huge leap up for me. added two very nice lenses and paired with Adobe lightroom and photoshop. I could not be happier with the results.
Pretty good so far. I just need to get better understanding all of the controls/adjustments/etc. Much better pictures than my 30D, specially in low light conditions. I’ve shot at 1600 and 3200 so far with pretty good results. Haven’t worked much with the video functionality yet, but plan on shooting a short film with it this Spring.
This camera is the best camera I have. Picture quality is sharp and controls are very user friendly. I highly recommend this product.

Pros: 29 Autofocus points, Super fast auto-focus, full HD video, accepts any Canon EF or EF-S lenses. Great build quality.
Cons: It’s possible for the front grippy surface to come un-glued or un-stuck from the body. The corner of the grippy surface came un-stuck from the camera body. I just superglued it back on, only about 1/8″ inch came off the body. I mention this because I store this body as a 2nd camera in my Tamrac Expedition 7X bag, and the velcro/divider compartments have somewhat rough surface and putting the camera in and out made the rubber come unstuck on the body. Other Thoughts: My main camera body is a 5D Mark II. This 7D body is the same size as the 5D mark II body, so you’re gonna get the look and feel of a larger camera body. It’s larger than the XTI/XSI/T1i/T2i. Where your thumb holds the camera, the raised area below the autofocus point selector button is larger than on the 5D mark ii, and I actually like it better. This camera has excellent build quality and I even like the shutter sound better than the 5D Mark ii. Go for it, pull the trigger and buy this camera!
Was tired of buying nice point and shoot and them not working to my standards. They never take the pic when you want and you miss the shot. Not with this camera. WOW the quality. You can’t say enough about the quality. I bought the Canon package with the telephoto lens and the Canon 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S Zoom Lens. You don’t want the cheap lens that comes with the 7d. There is a lot to learn about the camera to take even higher quality photos. I found that was not a problem b/c I got addicted to this hobby immediately.
Pros: Elite AutofocusExcellent High ISO PerformanceWeather SealingHD VideoExcellent ergonomics
Cons: Takes a real commitment to figure out the AF. This is the most complex AF system ever from Canon. If you’re expecting to come from a X0D and “just shoot” you will not get the results you expect. Read the manual, learn the system and you will be shocked by the amazing AF.Heavier than the X0D series but if you compare to the 1D it’s a lightweight. Other Thoughts: Coming from the 20D this is an upgrade in every way imaginable. Mated to good glass (Canon 24-70, Canon 24-105, Sigma 100-300/4, Sigma 50/1.4) this camera is world class. Video performance is excellent as well. I wasn’t planning on using it but have been using it quite a bit.
I replaced my rebel xti with the 7D. Lenses interchangeable and similar in many functions. However, picture quality on every level is far superior. I did not think that the average full light shot would show much difference from the xti (which took great pictures). It does. I was warned it would show all the imperfections in anything other than an “L” series lens. So far I have seen nothing in the midrange canon lenses I use. I have played with the video. As for what I am seeing on the camera screen at playback I’m very impressesed but I have yet to convert it to a viewable format for the flat screen. It is heavier. A little larger. Better formed to the hand. Fast. Very fast. I hesitated on buying for quite a while. Glad I gave in.
If you are serious about your photography, this is a beautiful mid-range camera. The ability to create HD Video’s is a definate plus! The high speed (8 shots per second) is great for sports and low light / high action photography.
Upgraded from a 40D, and I’m very happy with this model. Has everything the 40D has and so much more! The features and flexibility of this camera are amazing, and really puts me in control of my photos. The build quality is superb and very noticeable compared to my 40D. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this upgrade. Definitely an amazing camera body from Canon.
Have had time to use this camera and I am really happy with the results. I have 2 previous Canon SLR’s a 20D,50D. I am new to video using an SLR, but have created a couple and the results are unbelievable, excellent results, even look great on my 54″ LCD TV.
Pros: Very Solid Camera with great auto focus and a great button layout. This Camera is a great step up from the rebel line if your looking for a solid camera that will still support your EF S lenses.
Cons: Its a little on the heavy side which is fine for me but might be a con for others. If you open the CF card door it turns the camera off, which is a good way to loose your photos still buffering in the camera. Other Thoughts: Over all i’m very happy with the Canon 7d, I would like to have a Full frame camera at some point but I’ll have to save up for that one.
A big improvement over the D40. Focus, color balance and image quality are all as billed in the reviews and specs.
This is my first DSLR Camera and I love it.
I upgraded from the XSi to the 7D and the 7D is awesome. The AF system, resolution and the speed are significant upgrades from the XSi, not to mention the HD video capability. Overall, the camera is excellent. It is expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Pros: Coming from having an old N8008S, this camera will blow your mind, you wanna exploit your creativity this will give it to you, it’s crop but still an awesome piece of hardware, The autofocus on this camera is a lot better than the 5DII a lot faster too, and cost less, it’s a crop but it’s features are mind boggling, the AF is the real selling point why I got this, i’ve never seen this, i mean not for the price, you gotta spend more to get a feature like this , they compare it to the 50D or T2i, i don’t think they’ll even get close, craftsmanship is just too great on the 7D alone, it’s a better camera in a different league than those two, I love this camera because it challenges you to get your creativity to the fullest, and you thought you’ve seen a camera like this you ain’t seen nothing yet, low light performance is awesome too, the video yet i still have to use it, never got to that part yet, cause on the stills you get glued to what this thing could do;)
Cons: Nill Other Thoughts: If you’re new to photography and able to afford this piece, then go for it, learn it! the internet is your friend, it’s a new technology(AF) even folks who have a lot of experience in photography has had some learning to do, do a lot of reading and research online and you will be rewarded, taking pictures is suppose to be fun and quite a lot of it is trial and error but ultimately you’ll snap that perfect shot. Don’t be scared of the specs and others telling you frustrations on getting it to work a lot of patience will do great! I paired this with the 24-70L 2.8 USM that i got from Newegg too!! Don’t forget their awesomeness to provide you with eggcellent CS, love you guys!!
Pros: AF, resolution, micro-focus adjust, big-bright viewfinder, HD video, wireless flash
Cons: Not full frame Other Thoughts: I absolutely love this camera. I originally wanted the 5D Mark II but was disappointed when I found out the AF was not improved. The 7D’s AF is fast and accurate. The only camera I would want more than this camera is a 7D with the 5D Mark II sensor.
Pros: Excellent build quality, fantastic AF performance, nice improvement in high ISO performance from 40D, excellent frame rate for action shooting, HD video, great rear LCD screen, better metering (particularly with reds), more accurate white balance than 40D… the list goes on – this is a fantastic camera!
Cons: That I waited this long to buy this camera!Seriously, given the price to feature/performance ratio it’s hard to find much to complain about! Other Thoughts: Prior to the 7D I was shooting with a 40D for two years. I shoot mostly wildlife along with some sports/indoor events and the occasional landscape… The 40D is a great cam with excellent IQ, but I was hoping for an improvement in servo AF performance – particularly with fast action, low light and small difficult targets (ex. small BIFs). I’m honestly shocked at how much better the servo AF is on the 7D – they can’t even be compared! The 7D is in a completely different league… Something else I did not expect (haven’t seen much discussion about it in online forums or reviews), even single shot AF is much more accurate, particularly with fast primes in low light. Also, auto white balance is noticeably more accurate in tricky lighting and the new metering system is better – particularly with scenes that have a lot of red (my 40D would blow the red channel without compensation). Overall I couldn’t be happier with the upgrade!
I upgraded from the 30D. First impressions were very positive, loved the auto ISO, high frame rate, etc. The feel of the camera is solid, slightly bigger than 30D. Didn’t like the fact that I couldn’t use my eyepiece extender, the LCD gets smudged a little from my nose. My main complaint is the autofocus inconsistency. Regardless of what internet forums say, there are some issues with this camera. I have mine in to the service center to get worked on and I hope that when I get it back the beautiful shots I got with my 30D will be surpassed, but as of yet, I back to the tried and true.
ABT delivered everything promised 2 days early. Love the camera and wish i had bought it sooner. Still learning all the features. last weekend I took a video (1080) of my sons soccer game in Miami, clarity was awesome. later the whole team watched in HD the goal off the header. Way cool.
Pros: Really. I’ve gone from Canon AE-1 to Digital Rebel, to Rebel XT, to this. The first shots from it almost made me cry. Really. And the burst speed…good gravy. It’s fast. Love the 19 AF points, and the level as well.
Cons: Ummm…it can’t make me waffles? Well, autofocus with the live-view enabled is terribly slow. But I’m not a live-view fan, so it doesn’t really matter to me. Other Thoughts: I wish Newegg had more accessories for this camera. But, super-fast shipping…Newegg rules.
