  I purchased this disk, a gigabit Ethernet router and a gigabit Ethernet card for my Windows Vista PC. The quad core PC still works well (2.2 Ghz cores) but I had max’ed out the disk drives (0.5TB, 1TB & 2TB) unless I threw one away and bought a new 2TB or larger drive. Or a new computer. Browsing at BestBuy, I found these network disk drives. Ethernet enabled and it worked very well after I installed the Seagate Dashboard software. Sustained transfer rates over gigabit Ethernet are around 18 MB/sec so I am not sure if the gigabit Ethernet was needed but… Anyway, I needed the disk capacity to stream photos, videos, etc from the computer, thru a PS3 and then onto the 1080p TV. An unexpected but now pleasant surprise is that the content on the network disk is, well, on the network. The PS3 can access the network drive apparently directly. This is a major benefit because previously if the computer was busy doing something, it could not keep up with video streaming and the video would start and stop. With the network drive I hope that is gone – time will tell. The other concern is the long-term reliability of the network drive – I leave it on 24/7 and with 3TB of data I could lose a lot of files. To be safe I have a 3TB USB disk for backup but I am hoping that the network drive is reliable

  Pros: Thats not entirely true. I use it with windows 7 and it seems to work just fine. There might be an issue with it. I had to RMA the first one due to an issue with it not mapping the drives. My second one, works like a charm..
  
  Cons: See above, had to RMA first one, but second one works every bit as they say it should.. Other Thoughts: Thanks for taking such good care of me with the RMA Seagate. Newegg is the sweet spot too.. Love u guys..
