For 3D and best TV viewing, If you can sit in front/center of TV, this is good for you. because the display deteriorates rapidly in 3D viewing when you move your head. So make sure you sit proper position and make your head to place in the center of TV. If TV is on table top, then your seat should NOT be lower than table top. your seat height should be same level as table top where TV stands. Then you can watch good 3D movies, otherwise, you will see only deteriorates 3D effects. This 3D TV has build in 3D Sync transmitter , so you don’t need to 3D starter kits at all, all you just need is 3D glasses. Well, YOU NEED TO BUY 3D GLASSES. Again This doesn’t work come with 3D Glasses. When you buy 3D glasses, make sure they are rechargeable, otherwise, you may need to change your batteries after you watch every five 3D movies. So decide what you are looking for… Moral of my review is if you can sit in-front of TV, you can watch nicely.
This is my 4TH Sony TV in 10 years, and my 2nd XBR in 3 years. I can honestly say this product has never let me down! I bought my 46″ XBR4 in 2008 and the picture is almost as bright and beautiful as the day I first brought it home. This 55HX929 has the best picture I have seen on any of the LEDs I’ve sampled thus far. I was not happy with the Samsung 7k and 8k series LED’s, so I finally went back to Best Buy and shelled out an extra $500 for the Sony, the unit I should have stuck with in the first place. Best Buy came swapped out the last TV I purchased with the Sony. I had to wait 21 days for the Sony 55HX929 due to a backorder status, but once I received it and removed it from the box, I was impressed from the moment it started up. These days it’s hard to find a TV with a nice picture right out of the box. This Sony has a bright crisp vibrant picture with deep, deep Plasma blacks. The color accuracy is almost perfect, which is also Plasma like quality. You just set to vivid and the TV does the rest. The sound it pretty basic for an LED since they’re so thin, but when you buy something like this you want connect it to a 7.1 receiver or better to get that to get that movie theater affect . The price is a bit steep but if you buy this TV you won’t be disappointed, and I am a hard person to satisfy. I wanted to wait for the 65″ but changed my mind when I saw the $6k price tag. This TV is up there with the Elite; just compare the 2 whenever you visit the Magnolia Theater. If you want an LED with Plasma performance this is the TV to get……
Great picture and very easy to calibrate. The price was very high , but I suppose you get what you pay for.

Superior picture, excellent features. Crisp, bright, and no blur in high speed video. Easy to set up. Spend the time to learn the numerous options and features of this TV to get the most out of the experience. Very customizable. Sound quality always lacks on small TV speakers, but I never purchased this TV with the intent to use the TV speakers. Movies come alive when used with a quality receiver / surround system. Lot’s of gadgets and software with this wireless internet enabled TV… getting to know them now. Liked the automatic updates through internet connection.
I recently bought this TV thinking of access few apps like yupptv which is not possible as I cannot install any new apps and the ones that are out there are not as good as they can be and in some cases services are not available. TV in itself is good not doubt about it but if you are looking only for a good tv there are quite a lot out there in the market for lot less than this model atleast. Also there is a feature called PIP is not Picture in Picture its PC connected PC in Picture which mean you need to have a component connected to your TV to enjoy this feature this won’t work with any other connections (HDMI). Also as per sony rep we as in customers need to review manuals (if possible all end to end) before buying any sony products…. and for sure I’m not going to buy any sony products going forward.
This is a great TV. Best LCD tv I have seen. Plasma blacks. I spent 2 days setting up picture with WOW blu ray. Picture is just awesome. Tv is little brite out of the box. But dails in very nice. Replaced 2yr old samsung. This xbr blows it and this years out of the water.
I disagree with the reviewer below me, I drove 50 miles to see one in a Sony Store because I couldn’t wait for Best Buy to put one on Magnolia showroom near me. I must say I was impressed yet again by this set. Didn’t notice any blooming, same deep blacks, and the 2D to 3D converter works on everything while being superior to Samsung’s. I prefer full aray local dimming. This is replacing a Samsung 55in 8500 LED. I’d still be using it today if it didn’t break over five times. I tried a LG LX9500 out for awhile. Despite getting a defective panel with water mark stains on it.., the picture quality was nothing compared to the 8500, nor the HX929. The LX9500 was sporting a $5,000 price tag for “480hz.” The HX929 is an incredibly priced TV in my opinion given it’s performance vs the competitors.
Seen it at the Sony Store. Looks great. The picture quality is amazing. The sound is great too, but i will have mines connected to a Home system surround sound. Can’t wait for the coming soon sign goes away and becomes available. A bit high on price but you get what you pay for and it’s worth every penny when it’s available. Don’t settle for an Samsung(HONDA) when you can go for an Sony(ACURA). Both brands have different series with low models to high end models. Sony’s quality to me is much better.
