I recently purchased a new plasma TV and this surround sound system was “included” for only $100 more, so I purchased it thinking it would be an upgrade over the non-blue ray surround sound system I purchase a couple of years ago. Was I wrong. While the system produced a fine picture, the sound quality was a joke, I immediately wanted my old system back. The sound was so poor we turned up the volume to 80% of max and it still was not loud enough for our Media Room, which is not that big. I decided to purchase an Onkyo SS system that didn’t include a blue ray player and keep this system for the blue ray player only. This turned out to be a bad decision, because although it has an HDMI output, it doesn’t output a sound signal, you have to use the speakers that are included. I found this out after calling Panasonic. This thing is certainly not worth $300 plus and to me it wasn’t even worth $100. THANK YOU BEST BUY FOR TAKING IT BACK AND GIVING ME A STORE CREDIT, EVEN THOUGH 30 DAYS HAD PASSED. That why I shop with you. Go to CNET and get some information about these system before you purchase. This one has terrible sound quality.
It’s definitely a good sound system. Everything functions quietly and smoothly. DVDs and Blu Rays play back smooth as butter. The only big problem I have with this unit is that it starts up slow and there is no way to set audio-in from TV as the default start-up setting. So I find myself powering it on and waiting 10 to 30 seconds until the input button will respond to the remote commands. Why the big difference in wait time? I have no idea. The only other problem I had was connecting to the network, but I called Panasonic customer service and they helped me out.
I was looking for a decent little home theater system. Panasonic has had the best reliability for me over the years. This one works well. Sub is not powered, but it still adds enough bass to make the overall sound even. Network port, webcam USB port and onboard web content were nice surprises. Speaker sound is quite clear. Small profile fits well in the cabinet.

Just purchased the BTT270 and am very impressed with the sound and the features of this small light weight HTiB system. From the size and the price I did not expect it to sound half as good as it does, but it does, it puts out sound much bigger than its size. The “whisper surround” mode is very cool as I live in a condo and share a common wall with a neighbor, now I can have late night viewing with a full surround sound and not worry about waking my common wall next door neighbor. The “Cinema Plus” feature also really fills my 15′x23′ living room with sound very nicely as well. The BD player loads up fast and shows exellent PQ as well as the great sound quality. The only negitive I can think of is the remote buttons could be laid out better and the volume button is too small
I own this system and it is great! At first I was upset with the HDMI input missing. But then I realized that if you have a Panasonic TV or any compatible TV, the only HDMI cord connected to the TV transmits audio both ways (Bluray to TV and TV to Bluray). This is called ARC (audio return channel). It is a great solution if you like a minimum number of cables. Right now I have one HDMI from the cable box to the TV and another HDMI from the Bluray to the TV, it is perfect. The arc function also mutes the TV while the Bluray is in use avoiding any interference. So I basically have the sound from the cable box going to the TV which then passes the signal to the Bluray Home Theater through the same HDMI that receives the Bluray video and sound. It is genius! and the sound quality is the best because it is HDMI and has the ability to transmit a large amount of data (better than Digital Audio). Learned all this while reading the manual so when the manufacturer tells you to do so before using the equipment, it really isn’t a bad idea. Got 10% off with a coupon from Best Buy. The sound is awesome, it has the sound capabilities to best project your Blurays. After watching movies that really take advantage of the Bluray sound and video (Tron and Avatar), I am very happy with my purchase.
When I go to hook it up, I realize it doesn’t even have an input for HDMI. This thing would be great if it just had the HDMI inputs. I also wish it at least had the option of using wireless rear speakers.
