The Tough is a great camera for the outdoor type. It is rugged and can be submerged under water. There are several issues I have run into however: The battery life is HORRIBLE. It drains the battery faster than any other camera I have encountered and can’t get a full day of photos with it. Also, the GPS function is a great idea, if it worked. I have tried countless times to get the GPS to find location while standing out in a field with clear sky and still it is hit or miss. When it does work, it drains the battery even faster and is not very accurate. I am dissapointed that I spent an extra $100 for this feature and a deeper possible water depth.

The Tough series is great. I,ve owned everyone from the 6000 to the new 810. The cameras are good for what they are made for. The downside is that nothing is waterproof or shockproof. These cameras usually last me a year at best. If you buy this camera, you MUST buy the warranty (longer the better). Also make sure your warranty is pro-rated, you do not have to buy a new one each time your camera is repaired or placed

I really like the water proof ascpect and that it can be used for any outdoor activictes such as snorkaling and hiking and kyaking on a river

Especially since I like the beach so much and also taking a lot of pictures I can do both without stepping out of the water. I have used it a lot during the summer, very good underwater also. I have taken a lot of pictures during the summer on my vacation. A lot of people liked it during my vacation and I have recommended to a lot of people.

I got this camera as a step up from my Olympus Tough 8000. The last OT 8000 malfunctioned when I went into the swimming pool with it. So I got this one. Geek Squad honored the exchange but did not have another 8000, so I went with this one. I have to say, its a lot better than the 8000. I haven’t used it in the pool but the TG-810 is better. The 14.1 Megapixels are nice, the features are basically the same except this one has high def video which was a plus for me and the GPS feature which I haven’t really figured out yet, but I don’t think I will use it that much. Takes great pictures for everyday usage. I’m going to use this for work and for at home. Overall a good camera but if you are not going to use the GPS feature don’t spend the extra money for it. Good camera.
