The battery cover on my old Olympus C-740 broke, and the rubber band closure system I came up with just wasn’t cutting it anymore. I began to leave my camera at home because of its bulk and state of disrepair. Growing tired of relying on the phone-camera or someone else to send me their photos, events and occasions were getting lost to history by accepting life without a camera of my own. That would not do. The best tool for any job is in part the one you have with you, so when my search for a replacement began, I limited myself to the point and shoot style cameras for their ease of carry. Price was a consideration too, so I was looking for the best camera I could find for less than one hundred bucks if possible. I saw this camera advertised in a BB flyer one Sunday, in silver, so I did a little research on it. My local store did not have an example to try out, so I looked at online reviews (few and far between so far) and discovered Olympus also made this camera in black. Armed with a leap of faith and much previous happiness with my C-740, I ordered this camera online, on sale, and with free shipping. I have spent a week or so trying out ALL of the features, shooting indoors and out, under most lighting types and intensities. My conclusion is I simply CANNOT take a truly bad picture with this camera. It is compact enough to keep in my shirt pocket at all times, is good looking and well made, has a large viewing screen with an uncomplicated operating menu, has software that is complex but not complicated, and has HD movie mode in case I leave my primary video camera at home. I did not buy a snapshot camera to take perfect video, so the video quality is more than adaquate to me for an $89.99 camera. I use the simple “auto” setting for the shots I know I just want to post online, and will continue to experiment with the features of this camera when I have time and opportunity to take the real “keeper” shots. This is the first camera of this type I have ever owned, but I have a feeling its shirt-pocket availability and photo quality will make it the first camera I wear out by using. If you don’t expect this little gem to be anything it is not, you will be quite happy with the crystal clear photos in most lighting conditions, the menu and shooting functions, the options to play with some manual settings, the size, the battery life, the software, the HD movies, EVERYTHING. If you can’t be happy with this camera you weren’t born for happiness at all ……… };>{>
